Men’s Hockey Starts Season with 4-2 Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The men's hockey team took the ice on Friday night's first season game, hosting the Lakers of Grand Valley State University. Tech took home their first win of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Lakers.
 
The first period was a close contest; the score was 1-1 when the teams went to the locker rooms. The Warriors had the upper hand in the shot's column recording eleven to Grand Valley's five. It didn't take long for the Warriors to find the net, with their goal being scored by Luke Anderson three minutes and sixteen seconds into the game, with assists from Timothy Washburn and Mitchell Forton. Grand Valley was able to tally one back on the power play for a quick response with a goal in the 6th minute from Shane Haggerty, assisted by Gage Thrall and Andrew Dundas. Ty Barnhill recorded four saves between the pipes in the first period.
 
The second-period Tech took the advantage with a goal in the 17th minute from TJ Dougan, assisted by Avery Smith and Alex Arnold. Tech kept their shot advantage in the second, recording nine to the Laker's eight. Ty Barnhill recorded eight saves in the second, doubling his first-period efforts and bringing his total to twelve through two.
 
Tech found the net two more times in the final period, with the first goal coming in the 5th minute of the period by Avery Smith with an assist from Nikiforuk. Tech's second-period goal was in the 7th minute by Luke Anderson, assisted by Mitchell Forton. The Lakers pulled one back in the 15th minute of the final period with a goal from Eric Hulford assisted by Tristan Avoletta and Sam Lechel. Ty Barnhill played all sixty minutes in goal, recording seventeen saves in the game.
 
The Warriors take the ice Saturday night when they take on the Lakers of Grand Valley in the away leg of the series.
