WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Indiana Tech women's wrestling team won two duals at University of Cumberlands (Ky.) Friday, knocking off Montreat College 44-5, before taking down the host Patriots 25-22.
Tehani Soares (109),
Emma Jones (116), Charmayne Delong (130), Alyssa Pirro (136), and
Sam Snow (143) each won both of their individual matches on the day, helping the Warriors improve to 18-5 in duals on the season.
The Orange and Black won all but one bout against Montreat, ending five matches early by fall or technical fall.
Makayla Young needed only 35 seconds to pin Ivana Munoz at 101, setting a dominating precedent that carried forward throughout the matchup.
Tech and Cumberlands went toe to toe in the nightcap, trading blows in the first four matches, before the Warriors won three straight at 130, 136, and 143 to inch ahead. UC rallied to claim the final three classes, but bonus points in all five Warrior wins was the difference in a 25-22 nail-biter.
The Warriors return to Ft. Wayne, Ind., to host the Warrior Duals and Warrior Open January 27-28 at the Doug Edgar Indoor Track at Warrior Park. Action gets underway at 2 PM Friday as the Warriors host the Runnin' Eagles of Life University (Ga.) in the event's first contest.
