DES MOINES - The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team shook off yesterday's loss at William Penn (Iowa) and defeated Graceland University (Iowa) on a netural court at Grand View University. The Warriors opened the match in dominating form, posting a 25-14 set one win, and never looked back.
No. 7 Tech (1-1) blistered the stat sheet in that opening set, hitting .556 with 11 kills to only one error. A 7-0 run at the midway point extended a 14-11 Tech lead to 21-11, the spurt keyed by two
Ryan Griffel kills and punctuated by a
Mason Milan ace. Three successive attack errors from the Yellow Jackets later ended the set.
Sets two and three were more tightly contested, though GU errors again proved costly. Tech took advantage of 14 Yellowjacket miscues in the final two games, trailing only once (0-1 in game three) during those sets. Griffel's 10 kills was a match high and
Brandon Jones came through with 25 assists and eight digs on the afternoon.
Tech returns to the court Saturday for a 3 PM date with two-time defending NAIA National Champion Grand View University. The Vikings hold the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Preseason Poll and started their campaign with a 3-1 win over Lourdes University on Thursday. GVU is back in action tonight against No. 11 The Master's (Calif.) before tomorrow's matinee.
