DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team traveled to Michigan over the weekend to compete in two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchups, first against the Crusaders of Madonna University on Friday evening and then the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors took care of business on the road, winning 3-2 over the Crusaders and 3-0 over the Wolverines to move to 22-3 on the season and 12-1 in the WHAC.
Going into Friday's match, Junior outside hitter
Noelle VanOort was 4 digs short of the 1,000 career digs mark. Recording 10 digs in the win over the Crusaders, VanOort surpassed her second career milestone of the season, reaching the 1,000 kills mark earlier this year. There was little that separated the two teams to start the first, but with the game tied at 11, Tech outscored Madonna 14-6 in the remainder of the set to win 25-17. Tech started quick in the second set as they saw a 7-0 run extend their lead to 8-2, and despite Madonna bringing the set back within 1 point, the Orange and Black would never relinquish their control and take the set with another 25-17 score. With the match looking like Tech would sweep the Crusaders for the second time this season, leading the third set 23-17, Madonna wasn't done as they closed the set on an 8-0 run to force a fourth set. The momentum from the third set carried into the fourth as Madonna started the fourth set on a 6-0 run, giving them control over the set and not allowing the Warriors a way to come back as the Crusaders won the fourth 25-18. In the fifth set, neither team could separate and take a substantial lead. With their backs to the wall, trailing 16-17, the Orange and Black went on a 3-0 run with kills from
Taylor Paul and
Emma Westra to win the set 19-17 and claim the match.
On Saturday, the Warriors displayed a dominant performance as they won in three straight sets over the Wolverines. The Warrior's offense posted a .241 attacking percentage, while the Wolverines recorded a .000 percentage.
Noelle VanOort led the offense with 12 kills and 4 aces.
Andrea Schriver recorded 34 assists, while
Jacqueline Allaway led the Warrior's defensive efforts at the net with 2 blocks, and
Jacey Blust held down the back row with 16 digs.
Tech finishes their three-game road stretch on Wednesday as they travel to Sylvania, Ohio, to take on Lourdes University. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
