FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team rolled over Cleary University Wednesday night on their way to a sixth straight win.
The Orange & Black has been red hot since the start of conference play. After opening WHAC play with two draws, the Warriors have now rattled off six straight wins to vault themselves into first place in the WHAC standings with just three games to go, controlling their own fate. Over this six-game span, Tech has outscored their opponents 19-2, with three straight shutouts thanks to the great play of goalkeeper
Philip Kooper. Kooper added three more saves Wednesday night against the Cougars, making it ten in the last three games, while not allowing a goal. The Warrior defense, centered around
Marc Junca and
Nicola Brocca, has been instrumental in locking down opposing teams with four shutouts in their last six matches. Offensively, the Warriors have been firing on all cylinders as of late. Against Cleary, Tech put four past Cougars keeper Austin Freemire. Sophomore
Aaron Asamoah got things started quickly for the Warriors, scoring under seven minutes into the game on a tap in off a great pass from
Pana Georgiou. Then it would turn into the
Luke Jones show. Jones converted on a penalty kick in the 26
th minute to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. In the second half, Jones would a second goal and the Warriors third in the 62
nd minute when he took a pass from
Christos Philippou and cut to his magical left foot at the top of the 18-yard box, finessing a shot around the keeper and into the left corner of the goal. Less than 12 minutes later, Jones would complete his hattrick in ultimate fashion. After a throw in from
Nathan Raguin near midfield bounced past him, Jones would take a few steps to catch up to the ball and then unleashed a volley from 40 yards out that caught the keeper too far out of his net and rainbowed perfectly into the goal, capping off his hattrick and a very emphatic 4-0 Tech win. The hattrick makes it now nine goals on the season for the forward from Coventry, England, with seven of them coming during this six-game win streak and all nine being in WHAC play!
Indiana Tech is now 6-0-2 in conference play and 7-3-4 on the season. The Warriors will travel to Dearborn, Michigan on Saturday, October 21
st to play against the University of Michigan Dearborn at 3pm.
