DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team was halted from a seventh straight win on Saturday afternoon as they would draw 1-1 with the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Despite the Warriors win streak ending after six straight victories, they have now extended their unbeaten run to eleven games in a row without a loss. The tie is the fifth of the season for the Orange & Black and the third in WHAC play, which allowed Aquinas College to overtake the Warriors first place position in the WHAC standings. With only two games to go, every point is precious. Tech sits in second place with 21 points, one point behind Aquinas for first and one point ahead of third place Madonna University. The good news for the Warriors is that they still control their own fate as they will face both Madonna and Aquinas to close out the regular season.
Against UM-Dearborn on Saturday, Tech's
Luke Jones continued his insane form with another goal, this time doing it in just over four minutes of action. Jones put the Warriors ahead at the 40:22 mark of the first half to make it 1-0. The goal is Jones' tenth of the season as he has now scored in three straight games and seven of the last nine.
Lucca Motta picked up the assist on Jones' goal, and now has three on the season to lead the Warriors. Things were looking good for Tech after controlling the first half and taking a 1-0 lead into the break. However, there would be drama late in the second half as both sides would pick up a red card as Tech was issued one at the 3:16 mark and Dearborn at the 2:21 mark. Ten seconds later, the Wolverines would find an equalizer as goalkeeper
Philip Kooper would be beaten for the first time in four games. Kooper would finish the game with two saves as it would end in a 1-1 draw.
Indiana Tech moves to 6-0-3 in WHAC play and 7-3-5 on the season. The Warriors will travel to Livonia, Michigan on Wednesday, October 25
th to play against Madonna University at 3pm in a game that could decide the WHAC crown.
