Men’s Soccer Comes from Behind Late to Down Crusaders

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team came from behind to defeat the Madonna Crusaders 2-1 with two goals in the final ten minutes on Wednesday afternoon.

After falling into second place in the WHAC standings last Saturday, the Warriors needed a win against Madonna as they sat one point ahead of the third place Crusaders and one point behind first place Aquinas College. As the game kicked off, no team was able to create a big advantage in the first half. Madonna outshot Tech five to four in the half but neither side had any on target and the game would be 0-0 heading to the locker room. Midway through the second half, the Crusaders would break the deadlock with a goal in the 73rd minute, putting them ahead 1-0. Five minutes later, the Crusaders would win a penalty kick that would surely finish off the Warriors, however Tech goalkeeper Philip Kooper would watch the kick fly by and wide of the goal as the score remained 1-0. Four minutes later, Tech would then earn a penalty kick as well and everyone knew who would take it. Luke Jones entered the game with ten goals in WHAC play through nine games, scoring five goals in his last three matches. Jones would step up to the spot and bury home his 11th of the season to bring the Warriors level with under nine minutes to go. Tech would then fall to ten men after picking up a red card eight seconds after the goal. This would not deter the Warriors though as assist leader, Lucca Motta would set up Felix Jung with a game winner with 4:43 remaining in the game. Tech would hang on to their one goal lead and defeat the Crusaders 2-1 in an empathic come from behind win. Kooper would finish the game with 3 saves in goal for the Warriors, earning his fourth win of the season.

Indiana Tech improves to 7-0-3 in WHAC play and 8-3-5 on the season, setting up a winner takes all showdown on Saturday, October 28th when the Warriors host Aquinas College at 4pm on senior day for the WHAC regular season championship and top seed in the WHAC Tournament.
