FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer fell to #8 Aquinas College 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in their regular season finale.
The Warriors entered the day in a tie for seventh and eighth place in the WHAC standings and faced the daunting task of facing the top seed in the WHAC and No. 8 ranked team in the NAIA in Aquinas. Tech needed a draw to guarantee themselves a spot in the WHAC Tournament. The Saints entered the game with a 13-0-3 record, recording 13 straight shutouts, only conceding two goals all season. The Warriors, needing a tie, attempted to sit back and defend, hoping to deny the Saints a goal and escape with a 0-0 draw. However, Aquinas was just too powerful, finally breaking down the Warriors defense from a shot outside the box in the 31
st minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Saints would add a second goal just before the half as they led 2-0 at the break. The Warriors would have to adjust their strategy in the second half in an attempt to tie the score but could not get it done. The Saints would add two more goals as they would go on to win 4-0. Tech would register one shot on target in the contest courtesy of
Danielle Dunn. Junior goalkeeper,
Ursula Romero would make eight saves in goal for the Orange & Black in her first career start as a Warrior.
With the loss, the Warriors would have to hope for Cornerstone not to win in order to stay in the tournament picture. The Golden Eagles of Cornerstone would end up falling 3-0 to Concordia, guaranteeing the Warriors a spot in the tournament. Michigan-Dearborn would also drop 1-0 to Lourdes allowing the Warriors to finish ahead of the Wolverines, in seventh place in the final standings. After Aquinas' win they would finish 9-0-2 in conference play and in a tie with Siena Heights for first place as they would end as co-champs. With the tiebreaker giving Siena Heights the number one seed, Aquinas will be the two seed, meaning that Tech will now travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the opening round of the WHAC Tournament on Wednesday, November 1
st at 6pm to face Aquinas for the second straight game. Indiana Tech ends the regular season at 3-6-2 in WHAC play and 5-10-2 overall, earning the seventh seed in the WHAC Tournament.
