SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team was on the road this weekend to take on Rochester University and Lawrence Tech on their final regular season road trip. Heading into the weekend, the Warriors were atop the WHAC standings, and with their 3-1 (25-15, 25-11, 22-25, 26-24) and 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-15) wins the Warriors clinch their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season title since 2011.
Against Rochester on Friday, the Warriors found themselves in an even set to begin the match, but with a 13-12 lead, the Warriors stepped it up a notch to close the first set on a 12-3 run with kills from
Taylor Paul,
Noelle VanOort, and
Taylor Sorg to take the first set 25-15. Rochester took a 2-0 lead to start the second set, but the Warriors responded quickly with a 5-0 run with three kills from
Emma Westra. From then on, it was all Tech as they went on to win the set 25-11. Rochester started the third set by taking an 8-4. Tech scored three straight to bring it back to 1, but Rochester answered by stretching their lead to 13-7. Trailing 19-13, a kill from Westra sparked a 7-0 run from the Orange and Black to give them a 1-point lead, but to no avail, as Rochester answered with a 4-0 run of their own to claim the set 25-22. The fourth set was tight as the two teams went back and forth. Tech was trailing 23-24, but a Rochester service error gave them life as VanOort recorded back-to-back kills to claim the set and the match.
On Saturday, the Warriors opened set one with a quick 5-2 lead and never let the Blue Devils get back into the set. Leading 15-13, the Warriors went on a 4-0 run to put the game out of reach and eventually claim the first set 25-17. The Blue Devils took the opening lead in the second set and were reluctant to relinquish it, but the Warriors found their first lead of the set on a 4-0 run led by
Jacqueline Allaway, Westra, and VanOort. A few points later, a 6-0 run ensured the Warriors put the game out of reach as they went on to win 25-21. The final set was all Tech as they opened the sets scoring on an 11-3 run and never trailed, winning 25-15.
The Orange and Black move to 27-3 on the season and 17-1 in conference play as they prepare for Concordia University (Mich.) in their next game. Tech hosts the Cardinals on Wednesday, November 1, with the match scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
