FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's hockey team was in action over the weekend for their second season series as they hosted Kent State University on Friday before traveling to Kent, Ohio, on Saturday to close out the series. On Friday, the Warriors recorded seven third-period goals to win 8-0 before completing the sweep on Saturday with a 4-2 win.

On Friday, the game was held at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, where the Warriors opened the scoring in the first period with a shorthanded goal off the stick of Joey Mocnik. With no time left on the clock at the end of a scoreless second period, Kent State picked up a major penalty that changed the course of the game. In the opening 5 minutes of the third, Tech scored three powerplay goals from Colton Nikiforuk, Francesco Santaniello, and Malik Ali to extend their lead. Joey Fata put another goal past the Kent State Keeper with the teams back even on the ice. Tech scored three more powerplay goals from Ali, TJ Dougan, and Aidan Dufort to close out the game and take the 8-0 victory. Recording assists for the Warriors were Alex Carrothers, Wil Campbell (2), Francesco Santaniello (2), Colton Nikiforuk, Avery Smith (3), Joey Mocnik (3), Isaiah Gagerman, and Brandon Plummer. Ty Barnhill played in goal for all 60 minutes and recorded 15 saves on his way to a shutout.

On Saturday, Tech traveled to Kent State to finish the series. Tech broke through early as Avery Smith put one past the Kent State keeper in the first 2 minutes, which would see Tech take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Kent State drew level in the second period but less than 4 minutes later, Tech took back the advantage with another goal from Smith. Before the end of the second period, TJ Dougan would see his shot hit the net to extend the Warrior's lead to 3-1. Kent State pulled one back in the third, but Malik Ali put the game to bed with a goal in the final minute to seal the 4-2 win. Braedyn Funke played all 60 minutes in goal for Tech, facing 24 shots while saving 22.

The Warriors are back in action with three games this week as they travel to Hammond, Indiana, to take on Purdue University Northwest on Wednesday, before a conference series with Cleary on Friday and Saturday.
