FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team hosted Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon for their second top-25 matchup of the young season. In the Schaefer Center, the Orange and Black were outlasted by the visiting Tigers as they took their second loss of the young season 74-81. Tech moves to 1-2 in the early stages of their campaign.
Out of the gate,
Dallas Roberts had the hot hand for Tech as he scored the Warrior's first 8 points with a pair of threes and a layup to give the offense the momentum they carried through the opening 15 minutes of the first half where they stretched their lead to 10, 38-28, at the 5:24 mark. Down the stretch, in the first 20 minutes, the Warrior offense went stagnant, which allowed the Tigers an opportunity to get back in the game. Olivet Nazarene took their first lead of the game with 8 seconds left in the first half off a three from Caleb Swearingen but was quickly answered by
Max Perez at the buzzer to send Tech into the halftime break up 43-42.
Olivet Nazarene opened the second half on an 18-5 run, giving them a 12-point advantage with 13 minutes left in the second half. After trading some buckets, the Warriors offense hit a stale patch again, which saw the Tigers extend their lead to its largest margin of 14 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the game. Some solid defensive possessions from the Orange and Black allowed them to cut the lead to 5, but the Tigers held on to their lead to take the game 81-74.
The Warriors had three players score in double figures as
Max Perez and
Dallas Roberts ended with 17 points apiece, while
Nigel Martin recorded 16. Perez grabbed 3 rebounds and contributed 3 assists, Roberts had 1 rebound and a steal, and Martin had 7 rebounds and 1 assist.
Lucas Lyyski led the team in rebounds with 10.
The Warriors have next week off but host the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) for their final game before the conference season starts on Wednesday, November 15, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
