FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team ran over the visiting Madonna University Crusaders and right into the WHAC Tournament Championship match with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night in the semifinals.
With the win, the Warriors will now be playing in their sixth straight conference tournament championship game and will be looking for their fifth straight conference tournament title. No. 2 seed Indiana Tech came into the game against No. 3 seed Madonna after defeating No. 7 seed Cornerstone University in the quarterfinals 3-0. The Warriors would follow that performance up with a 3-0 win over the Crusaders in what would arguably be their most dominant performance of the season. The Orange & Black would control the tempo from start to finish, never letting Madonna get into the game.
Jaume Castells Mas would put the Warriors ahead early after a brilliant through fall from
Lucca Motta in behind the Crusader defense. Castells Mas would be denied initially by the Madonna keeper but would put home the rebound giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead just 6:19 into the match.
Ryan Steele would add the Warriors second in the 39
th minute to give the Warriors a huge 2-0 lead at the half. Tech would outshoot Madonna nine to four in the first half. The Warriors would continue their dominance throughout the second half, outplaying Madonna in every facet of the game.
Warren Moss would score a beautiful goal to finish off the Crusaders in the 70
th minute. Tech would defend their 3-0 lead for the final 20 minutes with Madonna pushing for any sign of hope, but the Warriors would fend off every chance. Goalkeeper,
David Martinez would play a big role in that, stopping six Crusader shots in the shutout win for Tech. Moss and Castells Mas would pick up assists in the game.
Indiana Tech, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will now head to Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, November 11
th to take on No. 1 seed Aquinas College for the WHAC Tournament Championship. Aquinas defeated No. 5 seed Northwestern Ohio 4-1 in the other semifinal match on Wednesday. No team has won more than three straight WHAC Tournament Championships until Tech's current run of four in a row, with the first being in 2019. The Warriors are now one win away from a fifth straight WHAC Tournament Title in their sixth straight appearance. Aquinas is looking for their first WHAC Tournament Title since the 2012 season.
