Warriors Come up Short on the Road Against No. 9 Maryville

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Over the weekend, the Indiana Tech men's hockey team traveled to Chesterfield, Missouri for a two game road series with No. 9 ranked Maryville University. The Warriors would come up short in both games, falling 1-4 on Friday and 1-3 on Saturday.

In game one, Tech would get on the board first on a goal from Joey Mocnik, assisted by Aidan Dufort and Avery Smith, in the first period. The Saints would toe it up two minutes later and the teams would head into the first intermission tied at one. In the second period, the Saints would add two more goals and lead 3-1 heading into the final period of play. The Warriors could not find an answer in the third and Maryville would add another goal midway through the period, going on to win it 4-1. Braedyn Funke made 18 saves in goal for the Warriors.

In game two on Saturday, the Warriors would look to split the series, but their efforts would come up short. After a scoreless first period, Maryville would score two quick goals to open up the second period, taking the early lead. Tech would battle back on the powerplay later in the period with Connor Funke scoring off assists by Wil Campbell and Alex Carrothers. Tech would head into the third period trailing 1-2. Again, the Saints would strike early in the third period, this time on the powerplay, to go up 3-1. The final 18 minutes of play would be scoreless as the Warriors would drop both games in the series. Ty Barnhill was in goal for the Orange & Black and made 30 saves in the loss.

Indiana Tech now falls to 13-9-0 on the season. The Warriors will have some much needed time off for the holiday break as they regroup and prepare for a conference matchup against Cleary University to start the 2024 side of the campaign. Tech will play on the road in Howell, Michigan against Cleary on Friday, January 5th at 7:30pm before hosting the Cougars on Saturday, January 6th at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse at 5:30pm.
