FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 13 ranked Indiana Tech men's volleyball team capped off a busy weekend with a win over the No. 15 ranked Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in the Schaefer Center on Sunday night. Tech finished the weekend with three wins in as many days to improve their record to 7-6 on the season and 6-1 in the conference.
The Orange and Black had a rampant start to the night as they jumped to an 8-0 lead to start the first set and set the tone for the match. The Warriors would stretch their lead out to ten at the 14-4 mark before closing set one 25-17. It was more of the same in set two as the Warriors went on a 5-0 run before conceding 2 points and again going on another 5-0 run to take a 10-2 lead. Kyle Shondell took a well-timed timeout to turn things around and put the Warriors on a 4-0 run to regain the lead. Tech finally closed out set three and the match with a 27-25 win.
The Warriors boasted a .380 attacking percentage on the night, recording 42 kills, 5 service aces, 8 blocks, 40 assists, and 31 digs. Leading the way for the Orange and Black attack were
Daynte Stewart and
Mason Milan, who recorded 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Stewart also served 2 aces, with fellow Warrior
Joey Hermes also recording 2.
Brandon Jones was the leader in assists for Tech, posting 32.
Jon Fonda recorded 5.0 blocks, and Hermes had a team-high 11 digs.
Tech hosts Bethel University in their next match on Tuesday, February 21. The matchup with Bethel will be the Warrior's first time the Warriors go up against the Pilots.
