Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team takes advantage of a 21-0 run at the end of the first half to beat Rochester University 85-73 in the WHAC Tournament semifinal in the Schaefer Center on Saturday.
In a challenging game disputed bucket-by-bucket, the break-even point started with 9:36 left on the clock in the first half.
Lucas Lehrman's lay-up started a 21-0 run for Indiana Tech that lasted until Anthony Cukaj ended Rochester's 6-minute drought by hitting a 3-point shot. The Warriors reached halftime with a 47-28 lead.
Honoring his WHAC player of the year award received this week,
Rog Stein was consistent all 32 minutes he had on the court and flirted with a double-double, finishing the game with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, shooting 57% from the field.
Josh Kline and
Grant Smith impacted both sides of the court in the Warriors' game. Kline scored 10 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots. Smith had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Indiana Tech's squad depth was once again an important factor in the game, with
Max Perez scoring 13 points and grabbing 3 rebounds off the bench.
Led by Gunner Walters and Anthony Cukaj, Rochester won the second half 45-38, but the duo's effort was not enough to overcome the advantage built up by Indiana Tech in the first half. Walters finished the game with 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Cukaj added 18 points.
With the win, Indiana Tech advanced to the WHAC Tournament Final, which will be played against Madonna University Tuesday, February 27, at 7:00 PM in the Schaefer Center.
