FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team stands firm against Cornerstone and guarantees a spot in the WHAC Tournament Final after winning 87-63 on Saturday in the Schaefer Center.
The Warriors dominated the Golden Eagles, especially in the first two quarters, to build a 24-point win and get punch their ticket to the final.
Erika Foy registered her 30
th double-double in her collegiate career with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Foy shot 66% from the field and did not miss a single free throw out of the 8 she shot in the game.
Other highlights from the Warriors were
Genevieve Decker and
Bethany Worm. The duo did a little bit of everything to get the Warriors closer to winning the WHAC Tournament title. Decker finished the game with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Worm had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.
The Warriors started the game with intensity and took advantage of a slow start from the Golden Eagles to finish the first quarter with a 13-0 run and 20-7 on the scoreboard. Things did not change much in the second quarter, as the Warriors outscored the Golden Eagles 21-13, arriving at halftime with a 21-point lead, as the scoreboard registered 41-20 for Indiana Tech.
In the second half, Cornerstone players increased their intensity and tried to bounce back in the game. Led by Stephanie Ainsworth and Maddison Fulks, that combined for 32 points, the Golden Eagles tried to react, but it was already too late, and the Warriors were solid to defend the advantage built in the first half.
The game ended in favor of Indiana Tech 87-63, and the Warriors move to the WHAC Tournament final. Now, the Warriors wait for either Siena Heights or Rochester University, which will decide the second finalist on Sunday, February 26, to play in the WHAC Tournament Final at Schaefer Center on Monday, February 27.
