Warriors Waver for the First Time this Season in Series Split

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech softball has had a strong start to the 2023 season, winning their first four games. On Saturday afternoon, the Warriors dropped their first game of the season at the bats of Olivet Nazarene University. However, Tech would win the second game of the doubleheader to walk away with a series split and make it five wins in their first six games.

In game one, the Warriors struggled on offense, only tallying one run through the first six innings thanks to an error by the Tigers' catcher. Olivet Nazarene would score five unanswered runs to take a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Tech would not go down without a fight though, scoring two runs off a single from Karra Leeger-Capraro to cut the lead to two. Tech would add another run in the inning after a sacrifice fly from Kennedi Sullivan saw Brooke Hughes come home to score the fourth run for the Warriors. However, the orange and black would be stopped there, falling 5-4, for their first loss this season. Savannah Bravo picked up the loss for the Warriors after going 2-0 in her first two starts.

In game two, Indiana Tech fell behind 1-0 after giving up an RBI double in the second inning. The Warriors defense led the way in this one as that would be the only run they surrendered in the seven inning game. Carlye Walter was a key part of that defensive effort, throwing all seven innings for the Warriors, giving up just the one run and only five hits, while earning the win on the mound. Tech would stay patient on offense and finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to Leeger-Capraro's three-run home run which was all the Warriors would need, as they would win the game by a score of 3-1. This marks Leeger-Capraro's second three-run homer in the past three games.

Up next for the Warriors will be a doubleheader at home against Marian University (Ind.) on Wednesday, March 1st at 2 and 4PM EST.
