Tech Softball Splits Series vs Ranked Marian

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warriors have gotten off to a hot start this season entering the day with a 5-1 record, but their toughest matchup of the season to date awaited them Wednesday afternoon as they faced off against No. 17 ranked Marian University.

Game one was a pitching battle between Indiana Tech's Savannah Bravo and Marian's Olivia Stunkel. Stunkel pitched the first five innings for the visiting Knights, striking out seven and giving up just one run on four hits. Bravo was even better for the Warriors, throwing a complete game and earning the win. The native from Arroyo Grande, California threw 13 strikeouts in the win and gave up just one run on five hits. Driving in the lone run off of Stunkel for the Warriors was Karra Leeger-Capraro with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Knights would tie things up in the top of the sixth, but the Warriors would not be deterred. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jordan Dippel singled to give life to the Warriors in the dying moments of the game. Alyssa Fox would then draw a walk to put runners at first and second. Katie O'Drobinak stepped up to the plate and became the hero after hitting a walk-off single that saw Dippel come around to slide into home plate, just before the tag, as the Warriors won the game 2-1.

In game two the Warriors were out dualled by the visiting Knights, falling 9-1. The Warriors tied the game at one after O'Drobinak's RBI double in the bottom of the first inning, but the Warriors could not match Marian's offense. Carlye Walter started the game on the mound for Indiana Tech and picked up the loss. Leeger-Capraro and Jayme Koning came in for relief during the game but could not put an end to the Knights invasion.

The Warriors will look to build on their 6-2 start to the season with a flurry of upcoming games this weekend. First is a doubleheader on Saturday, March 4th at 12 and 2PM against Viterbo University (Wis.). Then on Sunday, March 5th the Warriors will host both Viterbo University (Wis.) and IUPUC (Ind.) at Warrior Park. The Warriors will play Viterbo in the first game starting at 11AM, with a matchup between Viterbo and IUPUC to follow for the second game of the day, and finally Indiana Tech taking on IUPUC in game three to finish off the weekend.
