Women’s Hockey Falls in CCWHA Tournament Championship Game

BURTON, Mich. – Over the weekend, Indiana Tech women's hockey traveled to the Crystal Fieldhouse Ice Arena in Burton, Michigan for the CCWHA Playoff Tournament.

Indiana Tech earned a bye through the first round on Friday that saw the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and Miami of Ohio joining the Warriors and Adrian College in the semifinals set for Saturday afternoon. Adrian defeated Miami of Ohio 3-2, while Indiana Tech faced off against the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. Tech went down 1-0 ten minutes into the game but answered back with a goal from Hailey Terpstra six minutes later. The Warriors would go on to score two goals in the second period, courtesy of Dakota Bowler and Hailey Anderson, giving them a 3-1 lead heading into the final period of play. Tech would give up one goal in the third period but would hang on for the 3-2 victory and a spot in the championship game on Sunday. Mackenzie Addley made 25 saves in the win for the Warriors, while Genessie Williams, Brooklynn Moore, Isobel Pettem-Shand, Mikayla Kalverda, and Arina Jusczak picked up assists in the game.

On Sunday, Indiana Tech geared up for the championship match against Adrian College, the same team that beat the Warriors in last year's championship game. It was a tight contest, with neither team being able to break the 0-0 deadlock through two periods. Then midway through the third period, Adrian made the breakthrough going up 1-0 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game. The Warriors offense however could not get anything on the board, despite the 35 shots on goals. Adrian would add another goal with just over a minute remaining to put the dagger in the Warriors. They would also add an empty netter and go on to win the championship 3-0. Despite the offensive struggles, goalie Mackenzie Addley saved 40 of the 42 shots she faced in net for the Warriors.

The Warriors will now look forward to the ACHA National Championships, scheduled for March 16th-20th at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
