SYLVANIA, Ohio -- The Indiana Tech men's wrestling team claimed the inaugural regular-season WHAC Championship with a 38-9 win at Lourdes University Friday evening. Tech swept through its first season of conference dual competition with a perfect 6-0 record.
Lourdes won the opener via injury forfeit, as
Brendon Mark was unable to continue beyond 3:33, staking the hosts to a 6-0 lead. The Warriors struck back with four-straight wins at 133, 141, 149, and 157 to enjoy a 17-6 advantage at the midway point of the dual.
Elijah Anthony majored Cole McKinley 13-3Â in the 133-pound bout.
Kyle Kantola, Tech's veteran 141-pounder, shut out James Balazy in a 4-0 decision, before
Nick Gates scored a four-win win with a 10-1 major decision over Cyle Wells at 149.
Nate Wheeler's 1:43 pin of Marcus Cortez at 157 highlighted the 17-point burst.
Gray Wolf Andrew Torres scored three points for LU in the 3-2 decision over
Sam York at 165, before
Griffin Bekish (174),
Eric Vermillion (184), and
Jacob Brandt (197) closed out the match with a 13-6 decision, and two falls, respectively. Lourdes forfeited the heavyweight points to Tech, accounting for the final 38-9 result.

Tech will send a contingent to the Greyhound Open at University of Indianapolis on Sunday, before defending its WHAC Championship in Rochester, Mich., at Rochester University Saturday, Feb. 11.
