Warriors Softball Sweeps V-Hawks on Way to Best Start in Program History

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech's softball team is off to their best start in program history, with their most recent result Saturday afternoon, a two-game sweep of Viterbo University (Wis.). The Warriors not only won both games against the visiting V-Hawks but they dominated from start to finish, winning the games by a combined total of 22-3.

Game one saw the Warriors win 8-2 off the strong play from Jayme Koning. On the offensive end, she went 3-3 with four RBIs. She was a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle, with a single, double, and triple batting in runs in all three appearances. On the defensive end, Koning started at pitcher for the first time this season, throwing five innings and striking out three batters. She gave up just three hits and two runs but didn't surrender any earned runs on her way to her first win of the season. Alyssa Fox led off the scoring for the Warriors in the game with an RBI single in the first inning. Jordan Dippel blasted a two-run homer to straightaway center in the second inning to pad the Warriors lead, while Karra Leeger-Capraro had an RBI double in the fourth inning.

In game two, the Warriors forced the eight-run rule, winning the contest 14-1 after five innings. The offensive onslaught was led by Fox and Allie Forster, driving in four and three runs, respectively. Lundyn Santos and Alexis Galloway had two RBIs a piece for the Warriors, while Ella Cochenour also added one. Leeger-Capraro picked up the win for the Warriors, throwing four innings and three strikeouts. She gave up just three hits and one run. She also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI single in the fourth inning. With the Warriors up 14-1, outfielder Madisyn Miller came in to pitch the final inning for the Warriors, retiring all three batters she faced. Miller went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The Warriors will host both Viterbo University (Wis.) and IUPUC (Ind.) tomorrow, with three games on the docket. Game one will feature Indiana Tech up against Viterbo University at 11 am. Game two will featiure both visiting teams, Viterbo and IUPUC at 1 pm. Game three will see Indiana Tech take on IUPUC to wrap up the day at 3 pm.
