MELBOURNE, Flo. – On Monday, the Warriors played Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) and Montreat College (N.C.) in day two of their five-day spring break Florida trip.
In game one, Indiana Tech continued their winning ways with an 18-4 win over Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.). The Warriors had to start from behind in the game, as they trailed 2-0 after three innings. Tech would get one back in the fourth and then go on a rampage on the top of the fifth scoring nine runs in the inning. The inning was highlighted by two triples, one from Carlye Walter that drove in two runs, and one by Meagan Barton that drove in another, as the Warriors took a 10-2 lead. Heading into the final inning, the Warriors led 10-3, but that didn't stop them as they would score seven more runs in the top of the seventh and go on to win the game 18-4. The highlight of the inning came from Jayme Koning when she tripled and drove in Kaelie Kugler to score the 13th run for the Warriors. Bella Brock would then hit a two RBI double to make it 15 runs for the Warriors. Ella Cochenour hit an RBI single, and Lundyn Santos would drive in two more runs with a single, getting Tech to 18 runs on the day and securing the victory. Karra Leeger-Capraro and Koning would pitch for the Warriors in the win, with Koning doing the bulk of the work. She pitched 4.1 innings and threw five strikeouts, giving up just two hits and two earned runs, while earning the win.
In game two, the Warriors finished the game early, enforcing the eight-run rule with a 10-0 win in five innings against Montreat College (N.C). Madisyn Miller pitched a complete game shutout for the Warriors in the first start of her career. The sophomore outfielder from Louisville, Kentucky has only made one other appearance for the Warriors on the mound in her career. That appearance came in a game earlier this season where she pitched one inning and retired all three batters she faced. On Monday against Montreat, she pitched five innings, threw three strikeouts, gave up just three hits, and didn't allow a run, earning her the victory. She also played well offensively, going three for three at the plate, scoring twice, and getting an RBI. Leeger-Capraro led the team with three RBIs in the game, while Brock added two more RBIs, reaching base three times for the Warriors. Alyssa Fox had a stellar day at the plate for Tech, going three for four and scoring twice.
Indiana Tech will play St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Tuesday at 9 AM and Dallas Christian College (Tex.) at 2 PM on day three of their spring break Florida trip.
