Warrior Softball Extends Winning Streak to 12 in a Row

MELBOURNE, Flo. – On Tuesday, the Warriors continued to keep winning with two more victories down in Florida. In the first game of the day, Tech defeated St. Thomas University (Fla.) in a close game that went into extra innings, where the Warriors prevailed 3-2 on a walk-off in the bottom of the 11th inning. The Warriors took that momentum into game two, shutting out Dallas Christian College (Tex.) 7-0. This brings the Warriors win streak to 12 in a row and an overall record of 18-2.

Game one against St. Thomas University (Fla.) saw masterclass performances on the mound for both teams as the score stayed tied at 0-0 through nine innings. For the Warriors, it was ace Savannah Bravo on the mound going the distance, pitching all eleven innings with her second straight complete game victory. She threw nine straight scoreless innings before allowing one run in the tenth and one in the eleventh that were both unearned runs. She finished the game with a whopping 133 pitches thrown, while throwing seven strikeouts and giving up just six hits. There wasn't much going on the offensive end for either team until the extra innings, where a runner automatically starts the inning already on second base. As the Warriors trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 10th, they knew they would need to answer. That they did, when Kiersten Delaney hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that brought Meghan Berlin home to tie the game. Again, in the bottom of the 11th the Warriors would need to answer, trailing 2-1. The Warriors managed to get the bases loaded with no outs as they needed one run to tie and two to win the game. After a popup by Carle Walter, Katie O'Drobinak reached on a fielder's choice that drove in Meagan Barton to tie the game. With two outs and runners on the corners, Karra Leeger-Capraro stepped up to the plate. She delivered with an RBI walk-off single up the middle as the Warriors would win the game 3-2 in 11 innings.

In game two, Indiana Tech went up against Dallas Christian College (Tex.). Another great pitching performance for the Warriors as Carlye Walter pitched her second straight complete game shutout victory. She pitched all seven shutout innings, throwing four strikeouts, and giving up five hits. Tech's offensive was led by Jayme Koning as she got on base four times, going three for three at the plate with a walk. She also had two RBIs and scored one run. Lundyn Santos also had a good day at the plate, matching Koning's three for three with a walk stat line. Santos scored two runs for Tech. Walter, Amanda Parker, Haylee Pruitt, and Alexis Galloway all picked up one RBI for the Warriors as they went on to win the game by a score of 7-0.

On Wednesday, Indiana Tech will play Indiana University at South Bend at 9 AM and will play Indiana University Purdue University Columbus at 2 PM on day four of their spring break Florida trip. The Warriors played IUPUC earlier this season on March 5th in a game that saw Tech win a close one 5-3.
