CANTON, Mo. – The Indiana Tech's women's lacrosse team went on a two-game road trip to Missouri to start off the spring break week. On Saturday, the Warriors traveled to Saint Louis, Missouri for a top 10 showdown with No. 8 ranked Missouri Baptist University, falling 14-15 in a thrilling back and forth contest. The No. 10 ranked Warriors then traveled to Canton, Missouri to take on Culver-Stockton College Monday afternoon, where they were victorious in a 16-2 blowout win.
After a comfortable win against Georgetown College (Ky.) to open the season, the Warriors knew they would be tested against Missouri Baptist on Saturday night. Tech got off to a slow start, going down 5-2 after the first quarter.
Halli Reinhard would help jumpstart the Warriors offense with a goal early in the second.
Faith Donally caught fire, scoring three goals in just over four minutes of play to close out the half and cut the Spartans lead to just one, 8-7. The two teams would trade goals back and forth to start the third quarter. Tech would go on a run midway through the quarter, scoring three in a row, on goals from Donally, Reinhard, and
Da'zah Regusters to give the Warriors their first lead since it was 1-0 in the first. However, Missouri Baptist would answer with two quick goals to take a 12-11 lead entering the last quarter of play. Again, the teams would go back and forth to start the fourth, as Tech would tie the game at 12 and 13, before surrendering two straight goals from the Spartans as Tech trailed 15-13. The Warriors would get a goal from Regusters with 1:12 remaining to trim the lead to one but could not find the tying goal in the closing seconds as they would fall to the Spartans in a final score of 14-15. Donally led the Warriors in the loss, with seven points from five goals and two assists. Regusters,
Brooke Buhr, and
Dani Macomber would finish the day with three points apiece, while
Sydney Oberdorfer made ten saves in the loss.
The Warriors put the tough fought loss behind them quickly with a blowout win against Culver-Stockton College just 45 hours later. The Warriors started the game scoring seven straight goals, with Reinhard scoring a hattrick, as they took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter of play. The Wildcats would get on the board to start the second, but the Warriors would answer with another run of seven straight goals to take a 14-2 lead heading to the fourth. Tech would add two more goals in the final quarter of play from
Cece Mason and Buhr, as they went on to win 16-2. Reinhard would lead the way for the Indiana Tech with six points on five goals and one assist, as ten Warriors registered at least a point in the game. Oberdorfer picked up the win for the Warriors in goal, making eight saves in three quarters of play.
Abigail Magda would hold a shutout for Tech in the final quarter, making two saves.
The Warriors are heading into conference play with a 2-1 record as they get set to take on Aquinas College (Mich.) on Saturday, March 18 at 2 PM.
