Women’s Lax Drops WHAC Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Sunday, the Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on Aquinas College in the first conference game of the season. Aquinas would come out on top in a tight 14-12 loss for the Warriors.

Goals were not scare in this one as both offenses were on display early and often. Aquinas would strike first just 1:03 into the game, with Tech's Da'zah Regusters answering 14 seconds later to tie it at one. The Warriors would go on to the next four goals and take a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. The Saints would bounce back as it was all Aquinas in the second quarter. The Saints rattled off five straight goals to end the quarter to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. Regusters would score again just 14 seconds into the third quarter to tie the game at seven and scored again to tie it at eight, nine seconds after Aquinas scored to take the lead. The Saints would string together a few goals to take an 11-8 lead before Brooke Buhr scored her third goal of the game to bring the Warriors back within two. After another Aquinas goal, Jade Hamilton and Halli Reinhard would then score early in the fourth quarter for the Warriors to cut the deficit to just one at 12-11. But Aquinas would stay strong scoring two more insurance goals and hang on to win by a final of 14-12. Abbey Wilson led the Warriors in ground balls with five, while Wilson and Reinhard led the team with three caused turnovers each. Sydney Oberdorfer made 13 saves for the Warriors and gave up ten goals, while Abigail Magda picked up the loss, making one save and giving up four goals.

The Warriors fall to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the WHAC as they will look to bounce back in their next matchup featuring a top ten battle. No. 9 ranked Indiana Tech will host No. 3 ranked Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) on Wednesday, March 22nd at 5 pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
