FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warriors continued their exciting start to the season with two thrilling victories over the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers on Friday afternoon to improve to 22-4 on the season. It was the first conference games for both sides as the Warriors took both to move to 2-0 in WHAC play.
Game one saw the Warriors start off strong, scoring the game's first four runs. Karra Leeger-Capraro had an RBI single to score Alyssa Fox and then was part of a double steal that saw Carlye Walter score, as the Warriors led 2-0 after one inning of play. Jordan Dippel picked up an RBI single in the second and then reached on a fielder's choice in the third to drive in another run giving Tech the 4-0 lead through three innings. However, the Racers would not go away, getting two runs back in the fourth to cut the Warrior lead to two. The Racers would add runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at four. But it would be Indiana Tech's Leeger-Capraro who would play hero in this one as she hit a bomb off the fence in left field in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off for the Warriors as Amanda Parker scored the winning run. Savannah Bravo picks up the win as she throws another complete game for the Warriors, her seventh of the season. She had four strikeouts in the win, giving up six hits and two earned runs.
The second game in the double header showcased multiple big innings for the Warriors as the went on to win it 11-3 in six innings. Things got going in the bottom of the third when Dippel doubled to left center, scoring Meagan Barton. Walter then hit an RBI single to drive in Dippel. Katie O'Drobinak singled to drive in Walter and Bella Brock reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Fox, as the Warrior took a 4-0 lead. UNOH would answer scoring the next three runs to make it 4-3 but the Warriors would take back control with a solo home run from Brock in the bottom of the fifth. Leading 5-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Warriors would get RBIs from Walter, Fox, and O'Drobinak to extend the lead to 8-3. Then Leeger-Capraro stepped up to the plate and drilled a three-run walk-off home run to left field, enforcing the eight-run rule, as the Warriors would win it 11-3. Walter threw six complete innings for the Warriors in the win, giving up four hits and three runs, while striking out four UNOH batters.
Indiana Tech continues its best start in program history as they are 22-4 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC. The Warriors are also receiving votes in the latest Coaches' Top 25 Poll with 11 points and will look to continue their early season success on the road in a doubleheader against Cleary University (Mich.) on Sunday, March 26th at 12 and 2 pm.
