FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team has been on fire, winning their fifth and sixth straight games last night against Taylor University, making it 12 wins in their first fourteen games.
In game one, the Warriors had to win a shootout against the Trojans as both offenses were clicking. The Warriors got out to a strong start scoring two runs in three of the first four innings taking a 6-2 lead. Alyssa Fox hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Carlye Walter hit a double down the left field line that brought in two runners in the fourth. The Trojans would fight back to tie the game at six in the bottom of the fifth inning. Indiana Tech, however, would add a run in the sixth off an RBI single from Jordan Dippel that brought Kiersten Delaney around to score the game winning run. Delaney would help the Warriors add an insurance run in the seventh as well, with an RBI single, helping the Warriors to an 8-6 victory. Savannah Bravo started the game for the Warriors throwing 4.2 innings with three strikeouts, before being relieved by Karra Leeger-Capraro in the fifth inning. Leeger-Capraro threw 2.1 shutout innings for the Warriors, giving up just two wins and earning the win for Indiana Tech.
In game two, Tech struggled early, only scoring one run through the first four innings, trailing 5-1. The Warriors would start to claw back with a run in the fifth thanks to Allie Forster. In the sixth, Tech would add two more to cut the lead to one, but then would give up two more runs in the bottom half of the inning and would trail 7-4 heading to the final inning. The Warriors kept fighting with Megan Barton scoring on a wild pitch to make it 7-5. Then Walter singled driving in Alexis Galloway to make it 7-6. Katie O'Drobinak then stepped up in the clutch with the bases loaded and delivered a double to left bringing in two runs to give the Warriors their first lead since 1-0 in the first. Leeger-Capraro would drive in Walter to give Tech a 9-7 lead. Jayme Koning would finish off the Trojans, retiring three straight batters to end the game and earn the win for the Warriors. Walter started the game for the Warriors, throwing 5.2 innings and three strikeouts.
The Warriors will have a week off after playing 14 games in 15 days, before they travel to Melbourne, Florida where they will play 10 games in 5 days from March 12-16 over the spring break week. The first game will be March 12th against Florida National University at 11:30 am.
