Freshman Pitchers Shine as Tech Softball Starts Spring Break Trip with Two Wins

MELBOURNE, Flo. – The Indiana Tech softball team traveled down to Melbourne, Florida for their spring break trip which will see the Warriors play ten games over the course of a five-day span. The Warriors kicked the trip off on Sunday with two victories over Florida National University and William Penn University (Iowa).

In game one, Tech faced off against Florida National University, where it was all Warriors from start to finish. Savannah Bravo pitched her fourth complete game of the season and posted her first collegiate shutout. She threw ten strikeouts, picking up her fifth win of the season, while giving up a career low three hits. On offense, it was Katie O'Drobinak and Carlye Walter getting it done for the Warriors. O'Drobinak hit a two RBI single with the bases loaded in the third inning to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead, while Walter drew a walk with the bases loaded to drive in a run in the third and also hit a sacrifice fly that saw Meagan Barton score the seventh run for Tech in the fourth inning. The Warriors would go onto add another run in the seventh inning as they walked away with the 8-0 victory.

In game two, the Warriors continued their early season form with another victory, this time over William Penn University (Iowa) by a score of 4-0. Walter started on the mound for the Warriors and went the distance, pitching her third compete game of the season. Like Bravo in game one, Walter also picked up her first collegiate shutout, giving up just three hits for her third win of the season. Walter also led the Warriors on offense with two RBIs on a triple in the bottom of the fifth inning that saw Jordan Dippel and Alyssa Fox score. Dippel had an RBI single earlier in the inning that drove in Allie Forster, as Tech would get all four runs in the fifth inning and hold on to win number 14 on the season.

Indiana Tech plays Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) on Monday at 11:30 AM and Montreat College (N.C.) at 6:45 PM on day two of five down in Florida.
