Heartbreaker End of the Season for Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball teams season came to an end as they fell out of the NAIA Nationals Tournament after losing 86-79 to Briar Cliff University in a game with 9 lead changes and a clutch 12-0 run in the fourth quarter from the Chargers on Wednesday night.

Indiana Tech, led by Bethany Worm, Kyra Whitaker, and Genevieve Decker. Briar Cliff, led by Konnor Sudmann and Peyton Wingert, starred in a great basketball game for the fans. Tech fired with Worm's 3-point shots, and Briar Cliff answered with Wingert from long distance. The Warriors counted on Decker's power in the paint, and Briar Cliff countered with Sudmann's efficiency at the free-throw line.

The teams tied the first quarter 18-18 and reached halftime with Indiana Tech winning by four points and finished the 3rd quarter with the Warriors leading by 2 points. With the game on the line in the 4th quarter, Konnor Sudmann stepped up big to decide the game, scoring 17 points in the last quarter and leading a 12-0 run to turn Indiana Tech's 5-point lead into Briar Cliff's 7-point lead. A blow that the Warriors would not overcome.

Bethany Worm, Kyra Whitaker, and Genevieve Decker's performances were not enough to make the Warriors advance to the final site of the NAIA Nationals Tournament. Worm scored 19 points, shooting 87% from the field, grabbed 4 rebounds, assisted 8 times, and got 2 steals. Whitaker added 15 points, while Decker added 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Warriors' efforts to win the game were always answered by Briar Cliff, especially by Sudmann and Wingert. Sudmann scored 30 points, shooting 50% from the field and 92% from the free-throw line. Wingert scored 21 points, hitting 6 of 8 from the 3-point line, and grabbed 8 rebounds.
