WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball teams season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon as they lost to Menlo College 3-0 (17-25, 17-25, 19-25) in the pool play portion of the NAIA National Championship inside the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex.
Menlo started game one hot, opening their lead with an early 7-2 run which they wouldn't look back from to take set one. Tech fought back in set two as they had a 10-7 lead, but Menlo turned things around and went on an 11-2 run, putting the game out of reach to take set two. Set three was closer than the first two, but with the teams tied at 10, Menlo gained control and closed out the match, winning set three.
Leading the charge for Indiana Tech in kills was
Mason Milan, who had an impressive 9 kills throughout the match.
Jon Fonda also contributed to the offense with 5 kills, followed by
Brandon Jones with 4 kills.
In addition to his impressive kills, Milan also showcased his serving skills, earning 2 aces.
Daynte Stewart and
Clayton Wheatley also contributed with 1 ace each. Defensively,
Raekwon Rogers led the team with 2 blocks. Milan also contributed with 1 block, along with
Brandon Jones, who also had 1 block to his name. Assists were led by
Brandon Jones with 21, showcasing his exceptional ability to set up his teammates for kills.
On the defensive front,
Joey Hermes showcased his agility and speed with 8 digs, leading the team in this category. Milan and
Brandon Jones also contributed with 3 digs each, showcasing their all-around skills on the court.
The Warriors finished the season with an overall record of 19-10 and won the conference regular season and tournament titles for the second year in a row.
