Tech Softball Handed First Conference Loss in Split at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Indiana Tech's softball team was handed their first conference loss of the season Saturday afternoon in the second game of a conference doubleheader against Cornerstone University. The Warriors took game one 2-0 but fell short in game two 4-6. The Warriors still hold a two-game lead as they sit atop the conference standings at 11-1. Overall, Tech currently is an outstanding 31-5 on the season.

In game one, Indiana Tech held off the Golden Eagles by a score of 2-0 thanks to the stellar performance of freshman pitcher Savannah Bravo. She pitched all seven innings for the Warriors, making it her tenth complete game of the season. It was also her tenth win of the season and her fourth shutout. In the game, Bravo threw seven strikeouts and surrendered just one hit of the 24 she batters faced. On the offensive side, Tech got its two runs courtesy of Carlye Walter and Jordan Dippel. Walter, who led the team with three hits in the game, hit an RBI single in the third inning, scoring Dippel to get the Warriors on the board. Dippel added an insurance run for Tech in the seventh inning, scoring on a passed ball.

In game two, the orange and black got out to a slow start, trailing 1-6 through five innings of play. The Warriors started their comeback attempt in the sixth inning when Kaelie Kugler scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to four. In the seventh inning, Maire Trouba picked up an RBI by putting down a bunt to score Dippel. Walter would score a fourth run for the Warriors on a double steal, but that would be all as Tech would be defeated for the first time in conference play. Dippel led the Warriors with three hits in game two. Karra Leeger-Capraro picked up the loss on the mound.

The Warriors will head to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Thursday, April 20th for a doubleheader against Concordia University with the games scheduled to start at 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
