Warriors Defeat Saints to Advance to WHAC Tournament Semifinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech's women's lacrosse team was back in action Tuesday evening as the Warriors advanced through the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament with a 19-9 victory of the visiting Siena Heights University Saints (Mich.). Tech earned a home game in round one after finishing the regular season as the No. 4 seed in the conference and got a matchup with the No. 5 seeded Saints.

These two teams prepared to faceoff on Tuesday evening just six days after playing each other in the second to last game of the regular season, where the Warriors took the win on the road 18-8. Coming in with revenge on their mind, Siena Heights got out to a 2-0 lead in the WHAC Tournament First Round's opening minutes. Then Brooke Buhr and Halli Reinhard would start to get things going for the Warriors helping to take a 3-2 lead. Siena Heights would counter early in the second quarter to regain the lead at 4-3. However, Indiana Tech would take over after that scoring seven straight goals over a six-minute span to end the quarter and take a 10-4 lead into the half. The Saints would not go away quietly though, rattling off four straight in the third to cut the deficit to three. But it would not be enough as Tech would score eight of the last nine goals in the game, winning it 19-9 and advancing to the conference semifinals.

Buhr and Reinhard led the way with seven points apiece. Buhr ended with seven goals, while Reinhard put up four goals and three assists, putting her in a tie for tenth on Tech's all-time career assist leaderboard with 47. Da'zah Regusters led the Warriors in both draw controls and ground balls with 11 and five respectively. Kalisha Gilmore caused three turnovers for Tech, while Sydney Oberdorfer made ten saves in the win.

Up next, the Warriors will travel to Southfield, Michigan to take on top-seeded Lawrence Tech University on Thursday, April 20th at 5 pm in the WHAC Tournament Semifinals. Tech will look to avenge their 5-13 loss to Lawrence Tech when they previously met early in the season on March 22nd.
