FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team made history on Thursday afternoon after taking both games of their doubleheader at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, winning their first ever WHAC regular season title in program history. The Warriors finished conference play at 18-4 and currently are 38-8 on the season, both bests in program history.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Warriors left no doubt about who would take home the WHAC crown with a 9-2 victory, which officially sealed the title for Tech. Six different batters hit RBIs in the game for the Orange and Black, with Meagan Barton leading the team with three and Katie O'Drobinak, Karra Leeger-Capraro, Kiersten Delaney, Meghan Berlin, and Jordan Dippel each having one. Barton and Leeger-Capraro each had three hits in the game to lead the Warriors. Savannah Bravo earned the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings, throwing five strikeouts, and giving up just three hits and two runs.
The Warriors, having already clinched the conference title didn't take their foot off the gas, as it was much of the same in game two. Indiana Tech got out to a quick 3-0 lead behind a two RBI double in the second inning from Alyssa Fox. After the Wolverines got one run back, the Warriors would shut the door on them scoring the next five to build the lead up to 8-1. Bella Brock would pick up an RBI single in the sixth to add to the Warriors lead, as they would go on to win game two by a score of 9-2. Fox, Brock, and Kennedi Sullivan led the conference champion Warriors with two RBIs apiece, while Leeger-Capraro also had one. Brock and Barton led the team with two hits each. Carlye Walter picked up the win for the Orange and Black, throwing nine strikeouts over the seven innings. She gave up eight hits and just two runs in the win.
The Warriors will continue their historic season with four more games this weekend before heading into the conference tournament as the top overall see on May 3rd-5th. On Saturday, April 29th, the Warriors will travel to Palos Heights, Illinois to take on Trinity Christian College in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 and 3 pm.
