FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team picked up their long awaited first win of the season in a thrilling come from behind win over Huntington University on Wednesday evening.
The Warriors have gotten off to a slow start this season, failing to win in each of their first four games and that trend looked like it would continue after the first half of the game against Huntington. Tech would create a few chances but could not find the back of the net, registering six shots but only one on target. On the defensive side, the Warriors would lock down the Foresters for most of the half but gave up two goals to Joao Ratinho in the final minutes before the break, as Huntington took a 2-0 lead into the locker room. The Warriors would make nine changes to start the second half, completely changing the dynamic of the game. Tech would keep the energy up all half outshooting the Foresters ten to two over the final 45 minutes of the game.
David Ambaek was the first one on the scoresheet for the Warriors after scoring off a
Lucca Motta cross in the 58
th minute to bring the Warriors within one. The momentum would continue to build for the Orange & Black before
Douglas Appiah Kubi would draw the Warriors level, finishing home a cross off the left foot of
Pana Georgiou seven minutes later. Tech would continue to ride their second half explosion and after a series of three straight corner kicks,
Saladin Lekhal would head home his first career goal as a Warrior, off the corner kick from
Mathias Lutzhoft with just over eleven minutes to go, completing the comeback for the Warriors! Indiana Tech would fend off Huntington, not giving up a shot after taking the lead, as they sealed off the comeback victory.
David Martinez would make two saves in goal for the Warriors, picking up his first win at Tech.
Indiana Tech now moves to 1-3-1 and will host Spring Arbor University (Mich.) in their next game on Saturday, September 16
th at 4pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
