FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team was back in action on Saturday, hosting the Rochester University Warriors in a WHAC showdown. Tech's slow start gave Rochester an advantage, but the Orange and Black's determination lifted them past Rochester 79-65. Tech moves to 9-5 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.
Out of the gate, the Orange and Black offense struggled to find the basket, opening the game on a six-minute scoreless run, but Tech's intense defense kept them in the game, allowing just seven points during that time. A pair of threes from Brandon Michrina saw the Orange and Black's deficit widen to 13-2 with 13:08 left in the half. With the threat of letting the game get out of hand, Tech fought back and slowly cut into the Rochester lead, fighting all the way back so that a layup from
Crew Gibson with three seconds left cut the lead to 1, but a half-court heave from Gunner Walters put Rochester up 34-30 going into the locker room.
Out of the break, Tech took control of the game, opening the second half on an 11-0 run, with a Javal Lewis jam giving them their first lead of the game. Rochester kept the Orange and Black's lead in the single digits through the first ten minutes, but a three from
Dallas Roberts, who played a big part in the second half, scoring 16 points, extended the Warriors' lead to 11.
Brady Titus also had a big second half, combining with Roberts for 28 of the Warrior's 49 points, and down the stretch, it was Roberts and Titus keeping Tech ahead, scoring all but 3 of Tech's points in the final ten minutes of the game. Tech played ferocious defense and hit the boards hard in the second half, holding Rochester's offense to 36.4% shooting from the floor and out-rebounding the visitors 26-10.
Dallas Roberts led the Warriors off the bench, scoring 16 points, with 1 rebound and 1 assist.
Crew Gibson contributed off the bench with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Brady Titus had 14 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Javal Lewis posted a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, January 10, as they host the University of Northwestern, Ohio, in the Schaefer Center. That game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
