FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team returned to the floor on Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers and the Fisk University Bulldogs for a tri-match. The Warriors opened the day with a match-up against WHAC opponent UNOH and ended with a showdown with Fisk.
It wasn't the start the Warriors had hoped for to begin the day, as the Racers ran to an early 11-6 lead. Back-to-back kills from
Noelle VanOort put the Warriors on the right path, leading a 4-0 run to draw within one of the Racers. After a little stumble that saw the visitors retake a three-point lead, three straight kills from
Taylor Sorg sparked a 7-1 run, which saw the Orange and Black take their first lead. However, UNOH refused to give up down the stretch, capitalizing on Tech miscues to find timely points, pushing them back ahead for a 27-25 victory. The first-set loss woke the Warriors up as they stampeded past the Racers in the second set, taking an early 15-4 lead and eventually settling for a 25-12 win. Set three was evenly paced through the early goings, but a 6-0 run on the back of a
Katie Gostovich kill put the Warriors up by eight, leading to an eventual 25-15 victory in the third. The fourth set was again all Warriors, leading all the way from the 3-3 mark to a 25-11 win to claim the match.
The Warriors were led by
Noelle VanOort with 13 kills and 26 digs,
Kassidy Boener with 4 aces, Hanna Teich with 4 blocks, and
Sara Gomperts with 41 assists.
Tech took the momentum from their first match and carried it over into the second as they were dominant over the Bulldogs in the opening set, winning 25-8. The set was highlighted by a 9-0 run featuring three service aces from
Kassidy Boener. The Warriors again heavily controlled set two, taking their first double-digit lead at the 15-5 mark. The Bulldogs put up a fight, battling back to within three points, but the early lead from the Warriors was too much to overcome, as the hosts took a 25-18 victory. Tech's tempo helped them control the third from start to finish, as they never trailed, winning 25-10.
Noelle VanOort led the side with 12 kills,
Kassidy Boener served an astonishing 7 aces,
Hannah Teich matched her first match total with 4 blocks, and
Sara Gomperts added 31 assists and 11 digs.
The Warriors hit the road for their next match as they travel to Southfield, Michigan, on Friday to face Lawrence Tech at 7:00 p.m.
