AUGUSTA, Mich. - The Indiana Tech Men's Golf team completed the 2024 WHAC Preview Championship on Tuesday in Augusta, Michigan at Stoatin Brae GC.
In 2024, the WHAC Preview pivoted from a match play format to 54-holes of stroke play, in an effort to play a more "Conference focused," schedule. The change didn't slow down the trending Warriors, as Indiana Tech finished in solo third place in the 13-team field.
Miguel Gonzalez (Sophomore) led Tech with rounds of 73-70-74. Gonzalez's performance firmly puts him into the All WHAC Race, as he currently is sitting in a tie for 8
th place. Continuing his torrid pace,
Spencer Keller contributed rounds of 72-77-72 to finish the championship in a tie for 12th. Freshman
Ruben Mate was next in line, firing rounds of 73-73-77. Scoring was rounded out by Freshmen
Ashton Hoffbauer (low round of the event of 72) and
Canaan Stocksdale, whose low round came in the final round, as the Freshmen from Southern Indiana posted 76.
Jonah Beesley and
Xabier Herrero competed as Individuals from Indiana Tech, with Jonah posting rounds of 82-79-82.
Predicted in the preseason to finish the Conference in 5
th place, the 3
rd place finish is a step in the right direction for the young team. "The top three finish is crucial, as it puts us into that top pairing when we return here next April for the WHAC Championship," said Head Coach
Mark Beneke.
Tech has a few more events remaining on the schedule for the Fall semester.
