Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #10 ranked Indiana Tech Warriors women's hockey team traveled to Fremont, Nebraska to play a two-game series against the #1 ranked Midland Warriors. The Tech Warriors brought a huge upset to the table as they secured a 3-2 overtime win on Friday night but fell short 2-1 on Saturday, splitting the series at one game apiece, and moving their overall record to 1-1-2.
Midland University struck first on the power play at 9:35 in the opening period which gave Midland a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Indiana Tech responded in the second period as
Dakota Bowler found the back of the net with
Allison Greene providing the assist, leveling the game at 1-1. The Warriors continued to press and took the lead at 14:07 when
Ashley Episcopo scored assisted by
Hailey Terpstra and Greene. The Warriors held a 2-1 lead going into the final period of regular play. Midland came back in the third, tying the game at 2-2. Both teams had chances, but the game remained deadlocked through regulation, sending it into overtime. Indiana Tech wasted little time in the extra period when 2:48 into overtime,
Carys Wytinck scored a beautiful backhand game-winner, unassisted, securing a 3-2 upset victory for the Warriors. Goaltender
Izzy Varner played a total of 62 minutes and 48 seconds, saving a total of 35 shots.
In game two, Midland got on the board first taking a 1-0 lead. They doubled their lead making it 2-0 going into the second period. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period, but the Warriors finally broke through at 16:23 of the third period, as
Carys Wytinck scored unassisted, cutting Midland's lead to 2-1. The Warriors pressed for the equalizer in the final minutes but fell to a 2-1 loss to split the series with the #1 ranked Midland Warriors. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 59 minutes and 22 seconds, saving a total of 50 shots.
The Indiana Tech Warriors women's hockey will be prepping for a long stretch of games in the upcoming week, as they play a two-game series against Concordia on Friday, October 25
th and Saturday, October 26
th, as well as a road series against Lake Superior State University, traveling to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to play the Lakers on Monday, October 28
th and Tuesday, October 29
th, hoping to come out with 4 straight wins to end off the month of October.
