FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team kicked off their postseason run on Wednesday evening by hosting the Crusaders of Madonna University for the Quarterfinal round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament. In the must-win game, the Orange and Black took care of business, downing the visitors in four sets, 25-14, 21-25, 25-20, and 25-18.
The Warriors controlled the opening set, only trailing at the 1-0 mark but quickly grabbing and holding the lead for the rest of the set. Set two was an evenly fought battle with little separation between the two squads, but trailing 21-19, Madonna rattled off six straight points to take the second. The third set played out similarly to the second, but this time, the Warriors ended on a run, closing the set with three straight points, all kills from
Noelle VanOort to take the set. The fourth set was dictated by an early four-point stretch for the Warriors that featured kills from
Katie Gostovich and
Taylor Sorg. The four-point swing put the Warriors ahead for good at the 6-5 mark as they saw out the set to earn a spot in the WHAC Tournament semifinal.
Noelle VanOort led the Warrior attack with fifteen kills, while
Katie Gostovich pitched in twelve.
Paige Redder posted two aces, while VanOort and
Hannah Teich added two blocks.
Sara Gomperts dished out 44 assists, and Gostovich led the side with sixteen digs.
The Warriors will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday for the semifinal match of the WHAC Tournament hosted by Aquinas College, as they are the highest remaining seed in the competition. There, the Warriors will meet the Saints from Siena Heights and have a chance to go to their third straight WHAC Tournament Final.
