GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team kept their postseason alive on Friday evening with a dramatic five-set victory over the Siena Heights Saints in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal match-up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, hosted by Aquinas College.
The opening set was an evenly fought battle until a run of four from the Saints while leading 15-14 saw the three-seed stretch their lead to five and grab control of the set. Shortly after the four-point run, the Saints rattled off another four straight points to seal the set. The second set was another close contest through the early stages, but the Warrior's ability to piece together short two-point swings saw them grab a 20-14 lead. However, the Saints strung together six straight points to level the set at 20 apiece. With their backs against the wall and trailing 24-23, the Warriors scored three straight points with kills from
Hannah Teich and
Amelia Schultz to take the set 26-24. Set three was another close set that went down to the wire, but the Saints had the final say, scoring back-to-back points while leading 23-22 to close the set and take the advantage in the match. The Warriors started the fourth set quickly, jumping to an early 8-2 lead. From there, the Saints would cut the lead to one, but the Warriors would maintain their lead through the remainder of the set to level the match. Like the fourth set, the Warriors started fast again in the fifth, racing to a 7-2 lead and forcing the side change at the 8-4 mark. The established lead was too much for the Saints to overcome as the Warriors held on to win the set 15-7 and advance to the WHAC Tournament final.
Tech's attack was led by
Noelle VanOort with fifteen kills. VanOort also led the side in digs with nineteen.
Hannah Teich served up five aces.
Taylor Sorg was a force at the net, recording nine blocks, and
Isabella Assaley posted 54 assists in the match.
The Warriors will face off with the No. 1 tournament seed and No. 11 nationally ranked Aquinas College Saints in the WHAC Tournament final tomorrow afternoon. The first serve in Grand Rapids is set for 2:00 p.m.
