FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, making the short trip across Fort Wayne to take on the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Hutzell Athletic Center.
Taylor Covington opened the game's scoring with a triple at the 9:45 mark in the first quarter, but the hosts would quickly respond with a 9-0 run to set the pace for the afternoon. The Cougars would hold their lead through the remaining five minutes of the first quarter, taking a 15-10 advantage into the second frame. The Cougars stretched their lead to thirteen in the opening half of the second quarter, but six points in the final five minutes of the half from Covington and a triple from
Ava Ziolkowski with 53 seconds left helped the Warriors cut the lead to seven heading into the locker room. The Warriors continued to battle in the third quarter, cutting the Cougars lead to three with a lay-in from
Jaidyn Gulley at 5:08. The hosts responded with a quick 8-0 run to push the lead back to eleven, but the Orange and Black continued to claw back, cutting it to a 44-48 deficit going into the final quarter. Tech again cut the lead to three in the fourth quarter, but their offense went cold down the stretch, coming up short 65-53.
Taylor Covington led the Warriors with 21 points, three assists, and two steals.
Lauren Barton was the other Warriors scoring in double-figures, adding 13 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and one assist.
The Warriors move to 3-3 on the season. Tech prepares for Lawrence Tech in their next contest for the start of conference play on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:00 p.m. in the Schaefer Center.
