FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #16 ranked Indiana Tech Men's hockey team took the weekend sweep against Aquinas this past weekend winning 6-0 on the road on Friday night, and 6-4 at home on Saturday. This moves their overall record to 12-2-0 and 10-0-0 in WHAC play.
In game one, the scoring opened early for Indiana Tech in the first period at 1:43 when
Joey Mocnik found the back of the net, assisted by
Mason Bazaluk and
Alex Carrothers, followed by
Malik Ali scoring at 4:20 with the help from
Sebastian Potter and Carrothers again. Ali struck again on the power play at 14:53, assisted by Mocnik and
Isaiah Gagerman, which gave Indiana Tech a commanding lead going into the second period. The second period saw
Pavel Svoboda extend the lead at 7:55 off a setup from Gagerman and
Joey Fata, and just 41 seconds later, Ali completed his hat trick before entering the third period. In the final period, Bazaluk capped off the scoring run with assists from
Ryan Doucette and Mocnik at 6:25 to seal the 6-0 win. Goaltender
Gage Reimer played a total of 60 minutes and saved 26 shots.
In game two, the action started early as
Joey Fata scored just 5:34 into the first period, assisted by
Bobby Hathcock and
Ian Vannelli, giving Indiana Tech an early lead. Aquinas answered in the second period at 8:49 with a power-play goal making it 1-1. Indiana Tech regained the lead at 12:41 when
Isaiah Gagerman found the net with assists from
Mason Bazaluk and
Malik Ali, but Aquinas tied it up again at 17:28. Just before the second period ended,
Austin Sawyer delivered a shorthanded goal at 19:30, with
Luke Anderson and Gagerman assisting, to put Indiana Tech back on top 3-2. The third period saw a goal at 3:51 when
Ryan Doucette scored with help from
Ian Vannelli and
Jeremy Dunmore, followed by Sawyer's second goal at 5:47, assisted by Ali and
Luke Anderson. Aquinas fought back scoring at 11:31 and another power play goal and at 13:38, closing the gap to 5-4. Indiana Tech sealed the game at 19:30 with an empty net goal from Dunmore, assisted by Bazaluk and Doucette ending the game with a 6-4 win at home. Goaltender
Ian Kangas played a total of 60 minutes, saving 20 out of 24 shots and picking up his first win in goal as a Warrior.
The Warriors are back in action next weekend as they play another two-game series against Lawrence Tech (Mich.). The Orange & Black will play one on the road on Friday, November 22
nd in Redford Charter Twp., Michigan and one back at home at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday, November 23
rd at 7:30pm.
