FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team was back in action on Tuesday evening, making it three straight wins as they downed the Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn, 90-68, in the Schaefer Center.
The Warriors found themselves in a battle through the opening twenty minutes, with neither side establishing much of an advantage. Tech held a narrow lead through the majority of the half and stretched it to seven with a pair of free throws from
Crew Gibson with just under seven minutes to go. The Wolverines responded, knotting the game at 27 with 3:08 left to play, but eleven first-half points from
Javel Lewis helped Tech take a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
Out of the break, the two teams continued to trade blows over the opening eight minutes until, with just under twelve minutes to go, and in a one-point game, the Warriors' offense got hot, and their defense picked up the intensity. Led by eleven points from
Crew Gibson and ten from
Blake Davison, the Orange and Black would close the half by outscoring the Wolverines 38-17 on an efficient 20-33 shooting while knocking down half of their fourteen long-range attempts. At the same time, the defense refused to give up easy looks, contesting every shot and cleaning up the glass, as they out-rebounded the visitors 26-11 in the frame on their way to a 90-68 win.
Tech was led in scoring by
Javel Lewis, who scored seventeen points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Crew Gibson posted a double-double with fifteen points, fourteen rebounds, and led the team with four assists.
Max Perez matched Gibson's tally with fifteen points, all of which came from long-range, cashing in five of his eight attempts.
Blake Davison also eclipsed double-digits with twelve points, six rebounds, and three assists.
The Warriors now sit at 4-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Tech returns to the floor against the Saints of Siena Heights in their next contest on December 4. Tip-off with the Saints is set for 8:00 p.m.
