Warriors Roll Past Saints with Strong Second Half

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team returned to the floor on Wednesday evening, hosting Siena Heights University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference showdown. After a perfect start to conference play, the Warriors continued their unblemished start in the WHAC, knocking off the Saints 82-70.

It was a slow start for both sides as the Warriors opened the game on a three-and-a-half-minute scoring drought, trailing 3-0 until a lay-in from Javel Lewis at 16:27 got the Warriors off the mark. Once the two sides started rolling, there was little between the squads, with the Saints holding a narrow lead through the final eleven minutes until a 6-0 run, capped off with a last-second drive from Blake Davison, saw the score level at 36 heading into the locker room.

Tech's offense was anything but slow out of the break, striking first off four straight points from Brady Titus to put the Warriors up for good. Soon after, it was Crew Gibson's turn as he scored eight consecutive points for the Warriors to extend their lead to nine, and a Lucas Lyyski lay-in on the next possession gave them their first double-digit lead of the night. Tech's offense continued to execute, led by Jaxson Fugate with nine second-half points, and eventually expanded their lead to as much as 23 as Nigel Martin found a soft spot in the paint for a lay-in with just over four minutes to go before settling for an 82-70 victory.

Fugate led the Warriors in scoring with sixteen points and added 5 rebounds and one assist. Gibson posted fourteen points, three rebounds, and three assists. Max Perez added thirteen points, one steal, and three assists. Javel Lewis led the side in rebounds, grabbing nine while chipping in five points.

Tech moves to 5-3 on the season and 4-0 in the conference. Up next, the Orange and Black travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to take on Cornerstone University on Saturday, December 7, at 3:00 p.m.
