FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #7 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team split a two-game series with #13 Niagara University at home on Friday and Saturday night, moves their overall record to 6-3-1.
In game one, the first and second period remained scoreless as both teams battled back and forth to get the first goal of the game. Finally mid-way through the third period,
Halle Murray finds the back of the net on a power play goal assisted by
Hailey Terpstra and
Payton Gilmour, making it not only the first goal of the game, but also the last as Tech sealed the game with a 1-0 win over Niagara on Friday afternoon. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 60 minutes and saved 34 shots.
In game two, the first two periods passed without any scoring, however, the action ramped up in the third period when Niagara broke through on a power play at 1:11 giving them a 1-0 lead. Niagara extended their lead just over two minutes later at 3:27, and at 3:58 making it 3-0. Indiana Tech responded with a goal at 7:42 as
Ashley Episcopo scored a breakaway goal providing a late spark for her team. The Warriors ran out of time and left the game with a 3-1 loss to the Purple Eagles. Goaltender
Izzy Varner played a total of 43 minutes and 58 seconds saving a total of 22 shots, and
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 16 minutes and 2 seconds saving all 5 out of 5 shots coming in.
The Warriors are back in action next weekend as they play another two-game series against Grand Valley State University, one on the road in Allendale, Michigan on Friday, November 8
th, and then on Saturday, November 9
th at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana at 2pm, as they will play in a double header with the ECHL Fort Wayne Komets playing later that night.
