Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #10 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team swept Grand Valley State University in a two-game series this past weekend. They played on the road on Friday in Allendale, Michigan winning 4-3, and back home on Saturday in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, getting a huge 6-1 win in the big rink. This improves their overall record to 8-3-1.
In game one, the first period opened with Indiana Tech's
Dakota Bowler scoring the game's first goal halfway through the first period, assisted by
Megan Yakiwchuk and
Allison Greene. Yakiwchuk followed up with her own goal at 16:18, adding to Indiana Tech's lead. Grand Valley State found a way to the back of the net late in the first, tightening Indiana Tech's lead. In the second period, Bowler scored her second goal just 1:20 in, with an assist from Greene making it 3-1. Grand Valley State responded late in the second period closing Indiana Tech's lead by one. With the score being 3-2 coming into the third period, Grand Valley State scored to tie the game 3-3. Indiana Tech managed to pull away successfully with
Hailey Anderson sealing the game with a goal at 12:27, assisted by
Ashley Episcopo leaving the Warriors with a 4-3 win on the road. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 60 minutes saving a total of 12 shots.
In game two, the first period remained scoreless until the final minute when
Allison Greene put Indiana Tech on the board at 19:26 with assists from
Payton Gilmour and
Hailey Anderson. In the second period, Indiana Tech found the back of the net again in the final minute as
Megan Yakiwchuk extended the lead at 19:18, going unassisted to bring the score to 2-0. Indiana Tech widened the gap in the third period with Isobel Pettem-Shand capitalizing on a power play opportunity at 6:31, assisted by
Mikayla Kalverda and
Halle Murray. Greene then scored her second goal of the night at 13:28 with a shorthanded effort, putting Indiana Tech up by four.
Hailey Anderson followed up at 16:11 with an assist from Greene, who tallied her third assist of the series, bringing her point total to five thus far. Grand Valley State broke through at 17:45 on a powerplay goal, but Indiana Tech responded with Anderson finding the net again at 18:18, assisted by Greene and
Dakota Bowler. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume saved a total of 12 out of 13 shots and played a full 60 minutes.
The Warriors are back in action next weekend for a two-game series against #9 Miami University. They will play on the road on Friday, November 15
th in Oxford, Ohio and then back at home at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse at 3:10pm on Saturday, November 16
th looking to secure another two-game series sweep.
