Men’s Hockey Takes Commanding Lead in WHAC Standings After Dearborn Sweep

DEARBORN, Mich. – The #12 ranked Indiana Tech Men's Hockey team swept Michigan-Dearborn this weekend, ending on a high note going into Christmas break. The Warriors won 4-3 at home on Friday and 5-1 on the road on Saturday. This moves their overall record to 16-2-0 and 14-0-0 in WHAC play as they now lead by ten points in the standings. 

In game one, the action began in the first period when Dearborn took an early lead at 13:32 to make it 1-0. However, the Warriors responded quickly, tying the game just over a minute later at 14:43 with Alex Carrothers finishing a feed from Alex Arnold. Indiana Tech carried the momentum into the second period, as Connor Funke struck early at just 54 seconds, assisted by Brandon Plummer, to give Tech a 2-1 lead. Dearborn answered on the power play at 6:09, to tie the game at 2-2. The Warriors reclaimed the lead at 14:33, also on the power play, when Alex Arnold buried a pass from Jeremy Dunmore, making it 3-2 heading into the final period. In the third period, Dearborn tied the game again, making it 3-3. Before the time ran out in the third period Joey Mocnik netted the game winning goal on the power play at 17:39, with Alex Arnold once again providing the assist. Goaltender Gage Reimer played a total of 60 minutes in net, saving 24 shots. 

In game two on the road, the game remained scoreless through the first two periods. Indiana Tech's Michael Dalaly sparked the offense just 1:25 into the third period, with Aidan Dufort providing the assist to make it 1-0. Dalaly struck again at 5:02, again assisted by Dufort, doubling Tech's lead, and setting the tone for the period. The Warriors extended the lead once again to 3-0 at 12:45 with a short-handed goal by Malik Ali with assists from Sebastian Potter and Joey Mocnik. Michigan-Dearborn got a response on a powerplay, making the game 3-1, however, Tech kept the pressure on, adding another goal at 16:38 from Austin Sawyer with an assist from Luke Anderson to make it 4-1. Malik Ali capped off the night with his second goal at 19:05, assisted by Aidan Dufort and Kayne Gagner, sealing a 5-1 victory on the road. Goaltender Braedyn Funke played a total of 60 minutes saving 20 shots. 

The Warriors are back in action after Christmas break, as they take on Cleary University in a two-game series on Friday, January 10th at 7:30pm at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne (IN), and Saturday, January 11th in Howell (MI). The Warriors will be looking for a sweep to enter 2025, the same way they left 2024.
