Warriors Move 16 Points Clear in WHAC Standings After Sweeping Second Place Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – The #12 ranked Indiana Tech men's hockey team swept Cleary University in the first two-game series after Christmas break. Tech won 4-1 at home on Friday night and 7-1 on the road on Saturday. After sweeping the Cougars for the second time this season, the Warriors move their overall record to 18-2-0 and sit 16 points clear on top of the WHAC standings at 16-0-0.

In the first game, Cleary struck first just 31 seconds into the game putting the Warriors down by one. However, the Warriors responded on the power play at 6:31 when Aidan Dufort scored off a setup from Alex Arnold and Ryan Doucette, tying the game 1-1. In the third period, Dufort scored again on the power play assisted by Malik Ali and Doucette, giving Tech the lead. Goals from Francesco Santaniello, assisted by Connor Funke and Pavel Svoboda, and Michael Dalaly, assisted by Doucette and Jeremy Dunmore sealed the 4-1 win at home. Goaltender Gage Reimer played a total of 60 minutes saving a total of 37 shots in the win.

In game two, Joey Mocnik opened the scoring for Tech at 7:22 of the first period, assisted by Michael Dalaly and Jeremy Dunmore. Aidan Dufort extended the lead with a shorthanded goal at 11:37, then followed by Alex Arnold's goal at 15:29 assisted by Brandon Plummer. Cleary got on the board late in the first, but the Warriors led 3-1 after the first period. Ryan Doucette scored twice in the second period, with assists from Alex Carrothers and Dumnore on the first goal and Michael Dalaly and Aidan Dufort on the second goal. Arnold added his second goal of the night assisted by Brandon Plummer, making it 6-1. Jeremy Dunmore capped the scoring in the third with a goal assisted by Kayne Gagner at 17:33 to end with a 7-1 win on the road. Goaltender Braedyn Funke played a total of 60 minutes and saved 36 shots.

The Indiana Tech men's hockey team is back in action next weekend for another two-game series against Rochester Christian University, as they play in Fraser, Michigan on Friday, January 17th, and back at home on Saturday, January 18th at 7:30pm in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
