FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In their last game before the start of league play, the Indiana Tech men's volleyball team made quick work of the visiting RedStorm from the University of Rio Grande, winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-19) on Tuesday evening in the Schaefer Center. The Orange and Black remain perfect to start the Rosenberg era at 5-0.
The matchup with the RedStorm is just the second meeting between the two schools. The first was back on March 13, 2022, in which the Warriors won 3-0.
The Warriors got off to a dominant start in the first set, opening on a 5-0 run to set the tempo for the match. Defensively, the RedStorm could do little to slow down the Warriors' attack. That, paired with eight miscues in their own attack, led to the Warriors taking the opener 25-12. The second set got off to a more closely contested battle, but another 5-0 run from the Orange and Black put them in a position to control the set. Despite Rio cutting the lead to 20-23 on a 4-0 run, it was too late as the Warriors held firm to take the second 25-21. The third set played out in a similar fashion to the second; the two squads traded points until back-to-back blocks from the Warriors comprised the first half of a short 4-0 run, which put Tech up six. Once their lead was established, the Warriors refused to give it up, winning the set 25-19 to claim the match 3-0.
Daynte Stewart led the offense, putting down 10 of the team's 27 kills, and served up 3 aces.
Jacob Carrico added 3 aces of his own while also holding down the back line with 13 digs.
Logan Gamero continues to be a wall at the net as he sent back 7 blocks on the RedStorm.
Brandon Jones led the team with 22 assists.
Next up for the Warriors is a road trip to Adrian, Michigan, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Siena Heights Saints on Friday, February 16.
