FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team took down the visiting Concordia University Cardinals on Wednesday evening in their final home game of the regular season 76-62. Overcoming a slow start, the Warriors rode a solid second half to complete the season sweep of the Cardinals. Tech moves to 17-10 on the season and sits at 15-6 in conference play.
It wasn't the start the Warriors had hoped for against the Cardinals. Despite taking the lead in the early stages of the opening twenty minutes, the Cardinal zone defense forced the Warriors off the spot offensively and took their first lead midway through the opening half. The Cardinals stretched their lead to double-digits and hit a 14-point lead with 1:33 left in the half, but the Warriors scored five unanswered to finish the frame, trailing 31-40 at the half.
The Warriors continued their run out of the locker room, scoring nine straight to knot the game at 40. After a three Concordia to retake the lead, buckets from
Lucas Lyyski on two straight possessions gave the Orange and Black their first advantage since the 12:24 mark in the first half. After a short tie, 45-45, it was the other big man,
Javel Lewis, who put the Warriors up for good with an offensive board and the putback. Down the stretch, the defensive effort for the Warriors was too much for the Cardinals, eventually matching their largest lead of the night for a 14-point 76-62 win.
A trio of Warriors scored 17 points to lead the offense.
Max Perez had 17 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists. The two bigs for the Warriors,
Lucas Lyyski and
Javel Lewis, went step for step, both posting a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lyyski added 4 assists and 2 blocks, while Lewis contributed 1 assist and 3 blocks.
Dallas Roberts had 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists off the bench.
The Warriors conclude the regular season on the road in Lima, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio at 3:00 p.m.
